Dr. Collins is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and a Psychiatrist with the Criminal Behaviour Analysis Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police. Peter is also the Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to RCMP “O” Division Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the Investigative Psychology Unit of the South African Police, the Profiling Unit of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Behavioural Sciences Unit of the Calgary Police Service.
Peter obtained his Masters in Applied Criminology from the University of Ottawa, his Medical Degree from McMaster University and completed his postgraduate medical training in Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. His clinical appointment is with the Complex Mental Illness Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and he is an Associate Professor in the Division of Forensic Psychiatry, with the Faculty of Medicince, University of Toronto.
In 1997 Peter was elected a member of the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship. In 2000 he was appointed a member of the Interpol Specialist Group on Crimes against Children.
Peter retired from the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserves), at the rank of Lieutenant-Commander, and served on two deployments in Southern Afghanistan. In October 2012 he was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contribution to the Canadian Forces.
He is an expert on violent crime and has worked with, and instructed, numerous criminal justice agencies in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, Europe, South Africa, South-West Asia, Micronesia and Australia including the FBI, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Interpol, and Europol.
